Includes self drive rental vehicle with pick-up on arrival at Christchurch Airport and drop-off on departure from Christchurch Airport, with a choice of 5 vehicle types, and a choice of 3 standards of hotel accommodation, sightseeing & entrance fees as specified, and daily buffet breakfast at the hotel. Daily departures throughout the year.

Scenic Wonderland – 07 Days / 06 Nights Itinerary Detail

DAY 01: ARRIVE CHRISTCHURCH:

Pick-up self drive rental vehicle on arrival at Christchurch International Airport. Self drive to your hotel in the “Garden City”. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax or explore on your own with rental vehicle.


DAY 02: CHRISTCHURCH / QUEENSTOWN:

Check out of your hotel this morning and self drive to Queenstown today. Depart the city of Christchurch and drive across the flat Canterbury Plains to the farming servicing centre of Geraldine and over rolling hill country to Fairlie before climbing up the Burkes Pass and into the MacKenzie High Country. Stop at the “Church of the Good Shepherd”on the shores of Lake Tekapo. Continue on past Lake Pukaki and Twizel and through the small settlement of Omarama before climbing over the Lindis Pass and then descending into the province of Central Otago. Drive across Lake Dunstan and pass through the fruit growing region around Cromwell. Drive on through the rugged Kawarau Gorge and arrive at Queenstown set on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax.


DAY 03: QUEENSTOWN:

Today is a free day at leisure with an opportunity to explore on your own or to experience some of the many Optional activities available here such as Jetboating, bungy jumping, whitewater rafting, TSS Earnslaw cruise across Lake Wakatipu to the Walter Peak Sheep Station, gondola ride to Bob's Peak, 4WD Safaris and many more options. (Optional activities are not included in the tour costs) Enjoy your time in Queenstown, the Adventure Capital of New Zealand.


DAY 04: QUEENSTOWN / MILFORD SOUND / TE ANAU:

Full day self drive excursion to Milford Sound. Travel alongside the shores of Lake Wakatipu beneath the towering Remarkables mountain range and across the flat Southland Plains to Te Anau, gateway to the Fiordland National Park, a World Heritage Park. Pass through Beech forests, glaciated valleys, the Homer Tunnel with its 1:10 gradient and stunning scenery to reach the majestic Milford Sound. Enjoy a cruise on this world famous fiord which is dominated by Mitre Peak and the Bowen Falls. Return to Te Anau afterwards.


DAY 05: TE ANAU / DUNEDIN:

Drive from Te Anau to Dunedin via the Southland Plains and small farming settlements of Lumsden, Gore, Balclutha, and Milton before arriving at the Scottish influenced City of Dunedin. Check in to your hotel. This afternoon enjoy a self drive sightseeing tour along the Otago Peninsula with visits to the Royal Albatross Colony Visitors Centre, Natures Wonders with the Yellow Eyed Penguins, and Larnach Castle & Grounds, built by William Larnach in the nineteenth century and the only castle in N.Z. Return to hotel. Rest of day is at leisure.


DAY 06: DUNEDIN / MOUNT COOK / CHRISTCHURCH:

Check out of your hotel this morning. Self drive to Christchurch via Mount Cook. Depart Dunedin and travel north to Oamaru and then inland following the Waitaki River into the MacKenzie High Country and on to New Zealand’s highest mountain – Mount Cook. There is time for an Optional scenic flight here subject to the weather conditions on the day. (Optional scenic flight is not included in the tour costs.) Depart Mount Cook and drive along the shores of Lake Pukaki and on to Lake Tekapo and the “Church of the Good Shepherd”, before descending the Burkes Pass and through rolling hill country from Fairlie to Geraldine, and the across the Canterbury Plains to arrive at the “Garden City” of Christchurch once more in the late afternoon. Relax at leisure.


DAY 07: DEPART CHRISTCHURCH:


Your arrangements conclude today with the drop-off of your rental car at Christchurch Airport prior to boarding your departure flight back home.
